The Garden City Family Health Team assists with the practical training many nurses, physicians and social workers require as part of their University and College rotation.

We are proud to be associated with:
Brock, Sir Wilfred Laurier and McMaster Universities as well as the Nursing program at Niagara College.

Residents at the Niagara site do their rotations with family practices in one of five different Niagara communities: St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Grimsby/Beamsville, Niagara on the Lake and Port Colborne. Most of the practices are within 60 minutes of Hamilton and encompass a variety of styles of community practice, from small town to a larger city and incorporating a range of hospital and community resources.
There are six Niagara hospital sites available for education. Each resident’s family practice will be based at one of these while specialty experiences will take place at a number of sites across the Niagara region. Many of the rotations, such as Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology are done in a horizontal fashion, integrated with the Family Medicine experience.

The program emphasizes community, preceptor-based comprehensive training in Family Medicine within the Niagara Peninsula. There are core rotations in the other disciplines such as Internal Medicine.
Niagara residents attend their Behavioural Science tutorials at the McMaster Niagara Family Health Centre. The academic half day program can be videoconferenced from the St. Catharines General Hospital on Wednesday mornings.  Special interests of the Niagara faculty include:

In-Hospital & Emergency Work
Obstetrics
Palliative Care
Sports Medicine
Women’s Health
